City of Waukee

Waukee, IA is the fastest growing city in Iowa — but there has been a divide between the modernity of its newness, and the history of its traditions.

Designing a hometown identity system based on information-based design approaches could aid in bridging the gap between production and its reception through collaboration between designer and audience. By implementing user interviews and subsequent changing design systems, a new Waukee brand was developed with three accompanying applications.

With a historic and contemporary emphasis on bike and brew culture, Bike Waukee was developed to introduce the new brand to the community with a commitment towards riding together and exploring different aspects of the city. Branded promotional Bike Waukee mailers + trail maps, route signs, event wristbands, water bottles, and bike jerseys serve to solidify this new identity and its relevance to the city.
